Buhari Administration’s Hypocrisy

We Sued the Government for Reinstating the Corrupt Pensions Fund Administrator

As chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reform, Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina led a fraud running into over N100 billion. Maina, appointed by the Buhari administration, was untouchable. When the pressure mounted, the Senate issued a bench warrant but Maina soon ran out of the country, absconding from duty and getting dismissed from the civil service in return. The EFCC also declared him wanted.

Four years later — and two years into “change” — top officials of the Buhari administration arranged an elaborate scheme to bring Maina back to the country and resume in the same position. And they did. That was impunity! We sued.

This is corruption in high places. We can’t let it stand. Fight with us.

Corruption, Nepotism, Maladministration, Lack of Transparency

Why we went to court

  • To fight corruption
  • To alert the government that the people are watching
  • To ensure government officials know public funds are not to be stolen
  • To ensure the records are permanently kept for future generations

Background

Why We Decided to Sue

This is a classic and annoying case of why Nigeria continues to swim in corruption. We found it disgusting that an elected administration would allow a fugitive public official wanted by the EFCC to be in charge of the same organisation that he looted. It is a slap on  the face of all Nigerians. We reject this and declare it shall not stand.
